Gouripur House used belong to the eponymous zemindars of that name. Its claim to fame is that Rabindranath Tagore spent some of his last holidays here. The building was damaged in a fire, which has left it desolate and in an unkempt state.
This is where the Noble Laureate Rabindranath Tagore would stay whenever he would visit, his very favorite summer retreat . Kalimpong. So many famous verses have been penned from here.
There is a marvel engraved and pasted on the wall of Gauripur House in Bengali script that "এই ভবনে রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর বাস করেছেন এংব ২৫ বৈশাখ ১৯৪৫ কবিগুরু "জন্মভূমি " কবিতা আকাশবাণী মাধ্যমে জীবনটা আবৃতি করিছেন "
So its really sad to see this place almost in ruins. The government needs to look into the matter and immediately restore the place to its former glory. Although it is a heritage building of Kalimpong which is one of tourists' destination visit if it well maintained. No bengali come forward to restore this heritage building but the conscious and Kalimpong loving citizens must think and act to restore this property.
